Never heard about Belton House until today! Built

Never heard about Belton House until today! Built in 1668 for the Brownlow family. It was owned by the same family until the 1970's when it was handed over to the National Trust. The NT also purchased much of the furniture so the house has a very authentic feel to it.

Another Manor House ticked off - Grimsthorpe Castle! Originally there only stood a tower and two rooms until Henry VIII decided to visit and it was added onto, only for Henry to sleep in a tent outside! It was added onto again in Georgian times to what we see today.

Spent the morning visiting Harvington Hall, an Elizabethan Manor House virtually unchanged since the 16th century. It also houses the most priest holes in one house - total of 7!

Second stop of the day was Stokesay Castle. Built in the 13th century by a wool merchant who became the wealthiest man in England! He even leant money to King Edward I.

Found this little ruin on our way home from Stokesay Castle today. Built in the 13th century by King Edward I's Chancellor, it was left empty since 1420 and quickly fell into ruin. Leaving only the remains we see today
